Today is the anniversary of the day In 1947 that an Air Force public information officer announced that a “flying disc” crashed on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico.

The subject of UFOs is one of the more difficult things to wrap one’s mind around.

Either you’ve seen one or you haven’t.

If you haven’t, it’s hard to understand what it’s all about.

Add to that the fact that some UFO sightings are either easily explained away or are outright frauds.

All this is true…yet serious investigators who’ve taken the time and effort to study sightings intelligently report that a small percentage of events truly cannot be explained.

Further, details from old reports and found in old photos when evaluated seriously reveal details that are starting to make sense to modern scientists and engineers.

A favorite of US intelligence agencies

On this day in 1997, the Heaven’s Gate cult reportedly committed mass suicide.

Normally, we don’t cover UFOs, not because there is no such thing as an unidentified flying object, but because of this…

UFO cults are a favorite mechanism of US intelligence agencies.

By the way, the news coverage of the Heaven’s Gate murders – they were not suicides – is an example of the fraudulent news media at its best.

Applewhite was a military man who had been committed to an “experimental” treatment program purported to cure homosexuality. While at the hospital, he met a “nurse” who became his partner and was the real organizer behind the cult.

Whenever they’d run into trouble, Applewhite would take the fall (like when they were arrested for stealing a rental car) she would go her merry way untouchable. Applewhite went to jail.

She reportedly died a few years before the mass murders, but no one has ever been able to provide a death certificate or burial place for her. When People Magazine dedicated an entire issue to the story with detailed biographical info on all its members, she wasn’t even mentioned.

As for the fraud that they voluntarily poisoned themselves and just happened to all die in the same undisturbed position with a blanket covering them…tell me what poison works that way? Answer: None.

What was forced from the headlines the week this insanity took place?

That same week the US government admitted to having conducted ghastly medical experiments on children, including a program conducted with Quaker Oats that fed radioactively contaminated food to disabled children to see what the effect would be on them.

Is this science or science show biz?

After 4 years of research, astronomers cannot explain a bizzare phenomenon: star KIC 8462852 shows dips in activity lasting 3-5 days at a time.

The irregular shape and volume of the dips in energy have led some scientists to believe that the star is surrounded by an alien megastructure.

The structure could be technology designed by an alien civilization to collect energy from the star.

Or, it could be hyped-up nonsense from astronomers seeking attention.

Jacques Vallée

In the mid-1960s, like many other UFO researchers, Jacques Vallée initially attempted to validate the popular Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (or ETH). Leading UFO researcher Jerome Clark argues that Vallée’s first two UFO books were among the most scientifically sophisticated defenses of the ETH ever mounted.

However, by 1969, Vallée’s conclusions had changed, and he publicly stated that the ETH was too narrow and ignored too much data. Vallée began exploring the commonalities between UFOs, cults, religious movements, demons, angels, ghosts, cryptid sightings, and psychic phenomena. Speculation about these potential links were first detailed in Vallée’s third UFO book, Passport to Magonia: From Folklore to Flying Saucers

Scientific opinion has generally followed public opinion in the belief that unidentified flying objects either do not exist (the “natural phenomena hypothesis”) or, if they do, must represent evidence of a visitation by some advanced race of space travellers (the extraterrestrial hypothesis or “ETH”). It is the view of the author that research on UFOs need not be restricted to these two alternatives. On the contrary, the accumulated data base exhibits several patterns tending to indicate that UFOs are real, represent a previously unrecognized phenomenon, and that the facts do not support the common concept of “space visitors.” Five specific arguments articulated here contradict the ETH:

1. unexplained close encounters are far more numerous than required for any physical survey of the earth;
2. the humanoid body structure of the alleged “aliens” is not likely to have originated on another planet and is not biologically adapted to space travel;
3. the reported behavior in thousands of abduction reports contradicts the hypothesis of genetic or scientific experimentation on humans by an advanced race;
4. extension of the phenomenon throughout recorded human history demonstrates that UFOs are not a contemporary phenomenon; and
5. the apparent ability of UFOs to manipulate space and time suggests radically different and richer alternatives.

The thrill of space flight?

Why do these men look and behave so oddly?

Don’t you think there should be a small sense of exhilaration?

There are serious questions raised about the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. If you watch this footage, it’s hard to shake an uncertain feeling that something is seriously amiss.

If we did go to the moon back then, then why did we never go back? That is one of many questions we will probably never have good answers to.
